The color theme of white on black stems from old artwork and an overall stylistic choice. The red and white color choice comes into focus with the main character Nĭtro, and would later influence the branch off of different factions in the book. But with the inception of that character, I did not have the varying eye colors in mind as a lore to the depth as it later gained with the 65,000 word modification. Albino animals were always cute to me when I was young, and a few of my childhood pets were white rabbits, so I decided to go with albinism due to that history in my life. An tragic death occurred to one of my rabbits: it was mauled by a family dog. The name "Nitro" came from a bat that I symbolically adopted as a kid called a little golden mantled flying fox. The same goes for "Tyrant" aka Tyrin. Albinism translating to the world came somewhat on its own with the creation of Nĭtro and will be explored more as book two comes into fruition. It blends the scratchboard art style and albinism in tandem. Nĭtro is influenced by an albinism which is a condition that occurs in both animals and humans. Characters like June are inspired by hairless dogs called xoloitzcuintli, which are associated with the afterlife.
