The world of Nykearo is unexplored in book one: Predeceased Ascension due to the settings being closed off environments (one being a city partly submerged in a crater, and the other levitating in the skyline). However, there are mentions of this larger place in flashbacks and recollections. In book two: Retracing Desecration, that will all change. The earliest recollection of what this place was going to look like when I was young, was some sort of machine planet. But the more current idea is to have it not be a planet at all, but rather an asteroid. The cities and underground layers will be grafted to create things like cities and this will be mimicked on the surface as well. With it being an asteroid, there will be no sun and moon for a day and night cycle. The book does mention a 48 hour cycle, in reference to a doubling of Earth's hours (a planet not existing in the lore). So the working solution for this is to have the atmosphere, which is a red barrier, to literally collapse in on itself during the night and then expand outward for the day time hours/cycles. The atmosphere is not a traditional desert either. When I was writing my first novel, some asked if it was similar to Dune's Arrakis, the answer was no. Dune was a novel I would not read until years later. The desert of Nykearo is more biological than anything, and it is also littered with aggressive spire-like rock formations similar to stalagmites, which are crystalline or scorched rock. The surface is also pitted with craters from the asteroid nature. Caves will also be present and fissures, ect. The only real locations that has been stated on the surface so far are Armĭv and Unvullk. These are cities that have been erected atop of mechanical burial sites. Space travel does not exist in this world. The mishap technology, only known about by certain groups as far as maintenance goes, is not exactly built to travel the stars. So the species is stuck in a sort of hellish cyclical desire to ascend. But it will be dragged into a loop. Here's to hoping that some of what can be salvaged can at least help the natives endure the horror of the scorching night time durations. The nights of Nykearo can trigger heat strokes while the black asteroid is without an atmosphere. The ground burns like concrete if not for the white powder. Does that make sense since space is cold? No, but it sounds really, really cool.
